After Hours: Thursday Edition

Okay, Thursday crowd, your turn to put in your two cents on this week's ItC concerts. We covered an awful lot of ground in the first half of the program, and also created a mashed-up, multi-composer performance for the second half, so tell us whether those elements worked for you, or just seemed overwhelming. (We're also always anxious for feedback on things like the lighting changes that we used to highlight the changing of seasons on the second half...)

If you're interested in reading and hearing more about all the music we featured in the concert, check out our extensive Cutting Room Floor post, which has everything we didn't have time to get into from the stage, including a brilliant performance of Piazzolla, and a video interview with composer Angel Lam.

As always, thanks so much for your continued support of this series. We set an all-time attendance record for the Casual Classics/Inside the Classics franchise this season, and exceeded every goal we set, thanks to all of you in the audience. We're making the big jump to weekends next season, reprising one of our most popular early ItC programs in November, and then featuring some of the greatest repertoire ever written for a symphony orchestra beginning in January 2011. So come on back, and we'll see you next fall!

Liked the mixing of pieces. Sam, I thought you didn't give the audience enough "reaction" time before you picked up the narrative after an example...whereas, in past concerts, I hadn't perceived that as a problem. A little more music history tonight would have been nice. It was nice to see the seasons "thru the ages" and some on ways instruments were used. I'm just used to a little more.

As always, a wonderful evening that left us feeling excited and renewed. I do agree that a little more on music theory would be good -- maybe a little more on how the composers use sound to evoke images of an abstract concepts like "seasons." (Why, and more importantly, how, do the sounds of Vivaldi's Summer evoke images of warm breezes and bright sun, instead of, say, violists' pizza parties at Psycho Suzi's or high school hockey games?) On the plus side, I love being introduced to really exciting young talent like your two young fiddlers and the angelic Angel Lam -- is that piece of hers available on recordings yet? Overall, another great season. I'm glad you're moving to weekends next year, but, frankly, I'd probably attend every ITC concert even if they were held at 2 a.m. Monday mornings!

Really enjoyed Thursday night's concert. I wasn't sure whether I would like the 2nd half's composer "mash up", but it was surprisingly fluid and very refreshing. Loved the Pizzolla, and Jonathan Magness sounded great on it! I also thought the Angel Lam piece was wonderful.

I did miss the video screen that you had a the last ItC concert. I'm not sure if that was just because you were finishing up your (very fun) film festival, but I would like to see it return (especially for the first half of the programs, maybe not in the second half) - I'm sure it adds a lot to the experience for new classical music listeners.

Thank you so much - looking forward to next season's ItC series!
