Just saw that. Congrats! Hope the marketing department makes good use of all of the recent Carnegie accolades...

I am not in the least bit surprised though glad to hear Non-Minnesotans appreciate what we have here! Osmo Vanska, in combination with the magnificent Orchestra Members, have provided us a glorious, once in a lifetime opportunity!
I often hear the same concert 2 or even 3 times if it is available. Nothing IS MORE SUPERLATIVE THAN THE NEWNESS OF EACH PERFORMANCE, with it's distinctive feel from one night to the next.
I am so GLAD to have retired, and come home to Minnesota at this very time! Congratulations to Maestro Vanska and every single musician in the Minnesota Orchestra for the Joyous Fulfillment you create concert after concert

I had been waiting for Alex Ross's review of this concert. His big book, The Rest Is Noise, is remarkable and deserves the many honors it received. Two comments:
1. The M.O. and/or BIS should consider releasing a recording of this concert, either from Carnegie or Orchestra Hall--from the MPR tape if nothing else. The sound probably won't match the Beethoven recording standard, but this was an historic event for the Minnesota Orchestra.
2. Ross's review also points out the importance of repertoire. Audiences are hungry for new music that they can enjoy. It is much harder to get this kind of attention from highly familiar repertoire.
Today on MPR's All Things Considered, Tom Crann interviews Alex Ross about the concert, about why his reaction to the concert was so viscerally positive. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2010/03/17/minnesota-orchestra/

Yeah, about that. Not to sound ungrateful, but...
...nah. I can't do this in a comment. Here's my response to all that:
